DOWSIL™ R-40 Universal Cleaner is a ready-to-use universal cleaner for cleaning non-porous substrates before the application of Dow sealants.
The product is used for cleaning glass, metal profiles, plastics and other non-porous substrates in structural glazing, insulating glass, window and door systems. DOWSIL™ R-40 helps ensure a clean substrate before sealant application.

Choose DOWSIL™ R-40 Universal Cleaner when a universal cleaner is required for cleaning non-porous substrates before applying Dow sealants.
Choose DOWSIL™ R41 Cleaner Plus when cleaning and additional surface preparation are required in one step to support adhesion with Dow silicone sealants.
Important to know
Good surface cleaning is a precondition for durable bonding applications. Dow recommends the two-cloth cleaning method: clean the substrate with a solvent-saturated cloth and immediately wipe dry with a separate clean cloth. After cleaning, allow the cleaner to dry until all solvent has evaporated. This typically takes 5–30 minutes, depending on room temperature and humidity. Dow silicone sealant should be applied no later than 4 hours after the cleaning operation.
